An Angel Story: "A Truckers Christmas Gift"

Trucker Sam W. was driving his large semi down Interstate 71 one very early December morning, his body weary and his eyelids dropping. It had been a long haul. But he did his assignment gladly because he knew the extra money would help buy his children Christmas presents. There was very little traffic this morning before the congested rush hour. About a quarter of a mile down the freeway, Sam noticed a cardboard box right in the middle of his lane. Normally, he wouldn've thought nothing of running over such a box. It looked empty and seemed to be bobbing in the wind. As he was prepared to run over the box, he heard a small inner voice speak to him. "Swerve out of the way. Don't run over that box." Thinking it was just an overactive imagination, the trucker tried to dismiss that voice. But it came to him a second time. "I said, swerve out of the way. Don't run over that box!" Deciding to take the hint, he suddenly changed course, swerving his rig over into the other lane. After he roared past the box, he looked in his rearview mirrors to see what had happened. To his surprise, he saw a small puppy crawl out of the box. The trucker slowed down on the shoulder of the road. He went back and retrieved the little guy. Cold, shaking and totally helpless, this little German Shepherd mix was so thankful for being rescued. Carefully, the trucker wrapped the baby puppy inside his warm winter coat and headed back to his truck. "The kid's are going to have a present they didn't expect,"said the trucker to the puppy, smiling broadly.
